Congratulations to Shawbury Qualified Helicopter Instructor, Richie Robinson, who has achieved a landmark 7,000 flying hours – a remarkable achievement, reflecting his enduring commitment and operational excellence.
Richie began his career in the Royal Armoured Corps, spending a decade commanding Challenger tanks, before transitioning to Army Aviation in 1992. Since then, he has flown the Lynx and Gazelle in Germany, Kenya, Belize, Bosnia, Cyprus, Canada, and Northern Ireland—delivering critical operational output and amassing a wealth of frontline experience.
In 1999, Richie qualified as a QHI, dedicating himself to the instruction and development of the Army’s next generation of pilots. He served in the Blue Eagles Helicopter Display Team as Team Leader, showcasing the precision and professionalism of Army Aviation to audiences worldwide. His expertise was further harnessed at the Trials and Development Wing, where he played a pivotal role in shaping enduring Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures.
Today, as a senior QHI at Ascent, Richie continues to be an invaluable mentor, imparting deep operational insight and instructional mastery to the trainees of 1FTS.
