A new building will enable improved maintenance of survival equipment and better working conditions for Aircrew Equipment Assemblies (AEA) staff, fast jet pilots and trainees at RAF Valley.
The AEA Building will provide an updated Survival Equipment Section for Hawk T2 aircrew within the Ascent/UKMFTS Moran Building.
Due to changes in how AEA kits are serviced and stored, the old AEA workshop had become non-compliant with current regulations and raised air safety risks. The new AEA building will provide about 100m2 of floor space, allowing all AEA maintenance activities to be carried out in a safe and compliant manner. It also offers a better, decluttered working environment for the AEA staff as well as the pilots, trainees and visiting aircrews that use them.
Work on the project has also enabled a major upgrade to the Aircrew Locker Room, with new segregated areas for male and female pilots, the replacement of all lockers, and a new HVAC system to better control the temperature and humidity levels where the AEA kits are stored. Improvements that will make the Aircrew Locker Room one of the best in the country.
Construction work began in April 2025 and through the use of some smart technologies, particularly for the foundation and walls, Babcock was able to deliver the £1.7m project within a very short time frame.
Formal handover of the building takes place on 26 September 2025. Many thanks to Babcock for providing a Completion Supper to congratulate the entire project team, customers and suppliers (pictured), on a highly successful project.
