The joint Ascent and RAF teams at RAF Valley have been trialling a range of innovation projects as part of their Fast Jet Transformation Project. Initial work last year on the rapid introduction of VR and AR technologies to the Texan BFT syllabus had been encouraging, with the RAF Central Flying School overseeing and reporting on the trials.

The next phase of the project which commenced in January and has just completed in March has trialled Mixed Reality ground-based training in a Hawk training device to understand the potential of the technology in transforming the overall Fast Jet pipeline, aiming to accelerate student progression and reduce the time in training so that trainees can move to their frontline operating units more quickly.
