April marked a significant milestone in the Avenger TMk1 upgrade programme at RNAS Culdrose, with the first in-service flight of the second newly modified aircraft, after more than two years of work.
All four Avengers are being extensively modified to incorporate an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, an Electro-Optical camera and reconfiguration of the cabin area and mission consoles.

The changes will accommodate increased training capacity, while the onboard mission computer now uses the same software as the Lockheed Martin ground-based mission simulator, enabling a seamless transition for Mission Aircrew trainees.
Progress on the new Operational Support Base (pictured), is also well underway and on track to host a significant uplift in trainee throughput and staff from 2027.

The upgrade programme has extended the service life of the Avenger for another 10 years and alongside the new operational building, ensures Ascent and 750 NAS will be on track to deliver the UKMFTS Future ISTAR Rear Crew Training System (FIRCTS).
