New Helicopter Flying Training Device at RAF Shawbury

Ascent has a new Helicopter Flying Training Device (FTD) now Ready For Training Use at RAF Shawbury. Working with industry partners, using equipment provided by Lockheed Martin and built by CAE, the latest device is available months ahead of schedule.

Situated in its own building, adjacent to the Duke of Cambridge Operational Support Building, the FTD features a new visual display system utilising the latest laser projectors, providing a much brighter, sharper and more stable image.

FTD no. 8 is part of the SDSR15 enhancements to UKMFTS, and will support the new Direct to Rotary training course which has been designed to reduce time in training and get trainees onto the front line quicker than before.
