Work is progressing at pace at RNAS Culdrose, as we ready the site for the first trainees of the £300m Future ISTAR Rear Crew Training System (FIRCTS).
The boundary has been established, with red and white hoarding surrounding the site and the addition of an office and welfare to accommodate the site operatives and the management team. Current activities include the removal of asbestos and diversion of services. Once this is completed, demolition of the C2 hangar can commence.
Following demolition and clearance of the area, construction of the new facility – which will include new operational support buildings – can begin.
For many on site, this marks a massive move forward for RNAS Culdrose, a physical demonstration of the multi-million-pound investment being undertaken on the base that will see a four-fold increase in critically important Mission Aircrew trainees for the Royal Navy and RAF.
