Basic flying training graduates at RAF Valley
Basic training graduates at RAF Valley were proud to be presented with their ‘wings’ by Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, in one of his final duties before retiring in June.
Five officers – two from the Royal Navy and three from the Royal Air Force – graduated Ascent’s 310-009 Basic Flying Training course at RAF Valley.
Air Chief Marshal Wigston was the Reviewing Officer, presenting the graduating officers with their ‘wings’ and speaking at their graduation lunch.
The course was completed in around 13 months, beginning with a conversion onto the Texan that involved learning to handle and land the aircraft. Designed to prepare the trainees for their next stage of training, the syllabus required them to be proficient at formation, navigation and tactical flying, including simulated weaponeering.
All graduating trainees will be starting on the Hawk T2 at RAF Valley this summer.
