ALMA re-dedication service
In October, past and present Ascent rotary QHCIs from RAF Shawbury, joined the RAF Air Loadmaster Association (ALMA) for a special re-dedication service at the Air Loadmaster Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum. Association members, both serving and retired RAF and civilian ALM/Weapon System Operators (WSOp) from Shawbury, were in attendance.
The Air Loadmaster trade, which included fixed-wing and rotary rear crew, was renamed Weapon System Operator in 2003.
A church service was followed by the re-dedication, where the names of the fallen ALM/WSops were read out. Attendees then explored the grounds of the Arboretum and visited the Armed Forces Memorial, paying respects to fallen comrades. The day concluded with Association members and president Air Chief Marshall Sir Andrew Pulford sharing memories and experiences with the Shawbury contingent.
The event was an opportunity for reflection and camaraderie, with the chance to reconnect and commemorate the legacy of the Air Loadmaster trade. The participation of the Shawbury contingent was appreciated by the ALMA members and ACM Pulford, making it a memorable day for all involved.
