I particularly enjoy finding more efficient ways of working. Using our systems and my knowledge of Excel, I am constantly questioning processes and able to create better and more efficient ways of completing our tasks. Not only do I find this enjoyable, but it also then frees up capacity for me to work on other exciting projects and pieces of work that I may not have otherwise had the time to do.
Being quite new to Ascent it has been a challenge to fully grasp the structure of the company, the various revenue streams and the financial implications thereof. This has been particularly challenging given all the new acronyms I have had to learn; it has been a real test remembering what they all mean!
Given the Finance department is relatively small; the scope of responsibility is much more far reaching than perhaps at a larger Corporate company. Not only does the role involve maintaining a set of Management Accounts, it also encompasses elements of Statutory Accounting, Taxation, Treasury and Procurement. This often means that day-to-day activities can be quite varied and often exciting!
